Community Art Classes starting up!!

The Skagway Arts Council is happy to announce the resumption of the popular Winter Community Arts classes and workshops!

Thursday, Nov.8, 2012; 6:30pm to 8:30 pm, Introduction to Drawing Materials by Eve Griffin, School Shop, Free

Eve Griffin will discuss and demonstrate the basics of several classic drawing mediums, including pencil, charcoal, pastel and colored pencil, and there will be free time to try them out. All ages are welcome, materials will be provided. Although oriented toward beginners, artists of any level are invited. A series of drawing classes will follow this one in the near future; come to this demo class and tell us what you'd like to cover in those classes and how you'd like them scheduled. Eve Griffin will demonstrate pointing mediums, including brushes, surfaces, oils, acrylics and watercolor, and there will be free time to try them out. All ages are welcome and there is no charge to attend. Although oriented toward beginners, artists of any level are invited.

Saturday, Nov. 10 and Nov.17; 10:30am - 11:30 am, Knitting for Squares by Samantha Rickert, @Bites on Broadway, $12 for both classes; $6 for one class; $10/$5 for SAC members.
A beginner's knitting class in two sessions that will show you how to knit a simple square and produce a potholder, dishcloth, fingerless gloves, or the beginnings of an afghan. Learn how to cast on, knit and purl stitches, and finishing technique. Supplies provided.

Leather Mask Making class is back again this year with expert Tegan Baldwin. This class will be held on Saturday and Sunday, November 17 and 18 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Skagway School Shop. Participants will make at least one, uniquely designed and painted leather face mask. Cost of the class is $20 for adults/$18 for SAC members/$12 for students and seniors/$10 for SAC member students and seniors. All materials will be supplied. Please call 983-2248 to reserve a spot.

Additional classes are being scheduled to be held after Thanksgiving and through December including: Weekly Drawing What You See classes with Eve; weekly Painting classes with Eve; Stained Glass Ornament Making (12/1) with Deb Ackerman; Leather Gifts (12/2) with Tegan Baldwin; Earring Creation (12/5) with Kathy Wassman; and Christmas Stockings from Recycled Sweaters (12/9) with Tiffany Metz. And YES, ukulele making with Chris Maggio will return after the holidays.
